Elmo and the Red Balloon

Emma had such a sad day yesterday. She got a Elmo balloon from the dollar tree and was so excited. We also purchased a second balloon for my Dad's birthday. When we got to the car, I put his in the trunk and hers in the backseat. We drove to our next destination and Emma let go of her balloon and it escaped into the sky. Her tears where plentiful and so sad. We just held her and comforted her. We had just discussed the day before this article. We both realized it was not a good option to just buy her another one. She needs to learn we will be there for her when she is sad, that life comes with challenges and it is okay to feel sad. She talked about her balloon a lot yesterday and tears would come and go. It was SO HARD not to go get her another one. When it came time to give Papa her balloon present, she did it with no hesitation and happiness. I am so proud of my little girl!
