Being a pressing and important issue, it is time I write about proposition 8. The church (if your a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), has asked every member to support proposition 8.
Let me ask you, what have you done to support proposition 8? I myself have not done anything spectacular yet, except join a group on Facebook supporting proposition 8 and signing my name to a petition and writing letters to discourge companies from supporting the gay agenda. If your wondering about which companies are donating big bucks to supporting homosexual marriage; it is McDonalds, Proctor and Gamble and Johnson and Johnson and there are more. Check out American Family Association, http://www.afa.net/ for more information on which companies are supporting causes you might not believe in. I really want to do more and November is coming sooner than we all realize.
Tomorrow (Saturday) there is an opportunity to go out in the community; door to door and talk to people about proposition 8. In preparation for this event there are many things we can do to aid ourselves in being educated with what the real issues are. The following two articles below are great resources as to why we as a society should support Proposition 8 regardless of our religious beliefs.
Please read the articles and if you can; go door to door and educate neighbors as to why this is important to the well being of society. Even if you can just go out for an hour it has the potential to make a big impact. If we don't stand for something we will fall for anything. The Lord himself has asked us through our church leaders to be proactive in protecting and supporting our core beliefs about the family. Here is your opportunity! Also check out this website, www.protectmarriage.org it has valuable information regarding what this is really about.
Remember we have a civic responsibility to uphold righteous values and morals and will be held accountable to the effort we put forth regarding what we believe in. Knowing what great people you all are who read my blog, you have probably already done something about this and to you I say Thank you and may the Lord bless you!
Thanks, Emily
Here is information from my group on facebook:
Time to mobilize! Help the campaign by going door-to-door and making calls to identify those who support proposition 8: Saturdays - Aug. 16, Aug. 23, & Sept. 6
Those in the Glendale, Riverside, Valencia, & Yucaipa regions click below to contact your zip code supervisor:http://www.p8california.com/indexflash.html
Others can volunteer at the website below, or call the campaign office to get involved in your area. http://www.protectmarriage.com/volunteer
Also, I thought you might be interested in the 2 articles below which clearly articulate the social and cultural reasons to support proposition 8 and traditional marriage. While both articles are from religious organizations that are participating in the campaign, they both focus on the secular (non-religious) reasoning for the initiative. It is important that the many Christian supporters of proposition 8 stay away from bible-thumping and purely religious arguments in order to not add fuel to the fire of painting supporters as close-minded religious fanatics. This is because this issue is critical to the well being of every person, religious or not, in this nation and as an entire society.
